Breckenridge, CO, has been around since the 1800s and is one of the most famous ski resorts in Colorado. Did you know that summer in Breck is just as fun?!
With activities and events on the river walk, [free] gondola rides, miles of hiking trails, Dillon Reservoir, the list of summer fun in Breck goes ON and ON. I wanted to highlight a few of the activities we enjoyed over the summer, specifically for families and children.
There are so many places to stay in and around Breck. We stayed overnight in Frisco, CO. Frisco Main Street and Breckenridge Main Street are the cutest and a MUST if you are in the area! Walk the shops, take in the mountain air, and of course stop and eat in one of the adorable restaurants lining Main Street. We hiked a short trail around the Peak One Disc Golf Course which had views of Dillon Res, and the men could play a round of disc golf.
One of the most spectacular views of the reservoir and Breckenridge was from the top of Swan Mountain. Be sure to take some trail mix and/or peanuts to the top to feed the chipmunks! They are everywhere, and they come up and eat straight out of your hand! SO FUN! When you finish with the chipmunks, head down the trail which makes a short loop around the mountain and back to the parking lot.
A little before sunset, we headed to the Dillon Amphitheater area to let the children play on the giant playground. We may have created our own happy hour while watching the beautiful sun set over Dillon Res, while the sailboats did their thing. It was a magical evening!
Finally, we can’t make a summer trip to Breckenridge and NOT ride the gondola up to Peak 8! This is by far our favorite activity to do in Breck as it is FREE OF CHARGE, and you can literally ride it all the way up and as many times as you want!
The gondola is enclosed and makes 3 stops on it’s way to the top. You can get off at the top and enjoy resort fun on the top of Peak 8, eat at a restaurant, and do the Alpine slide or roller coaster. There are additional costs associated with each of these activities. We typically just stay on and ride the gondola back down to the parking lot. Definitely worth the ride for the views alone!!
